General Advice

Information on what you should wear to dance classes, how to book and how many classes to attend.

What should you wear?


We have different coloured leotards for different age groups and dance classes. Please ask at reception for details.
Tights (white)
Hoodies (optional)
To keep you warm between dance classes.
Long hair should be worn in a bun.


Black leggings with white crew neck T-shirt
Leather ballet shoes.
Black Tap shoes.
Satin ballet shoes with ribbons for exams and performances.

All uniform items can be purchased from the Clobbershop in our Cheltenham studio.

How do I book a place on the classes?

Please fill out a registration form – follow this link – and send or bring it to the studio.

How many dance classes should my child attend?

You can attend as many classes as you wish, but we will assess and advise if we think your child should attend extra lessons to further their progress.

Summer School

For one week during the summer term, Janet Marshall Dance Studios run a summer school which is available for all of our students and any children age 6 – 16 who want to try all disciplines of dance including: tap, ballet, modern, jazz, Irish dancing, street dance, hip-hop etc.

At the end of the week there is a short performance in the theatre where parents can see what their children have been learning and allows the children to experience performing to an audience.

Please remember to bring:

  • Hair accessories (hair spray, nets, grips etc).
  • Packed lunch and a drink; although some snacks and drinks will be provided.
  • Leotards and tights (and a clean set in case they get dirty).
  • T-shirt, sweat top and jogging bottoms.
  • Ballet and tap shoes and a pair of trainers.

Summer Extravaganza

This is a chance for parents and family members to see all of the dances performed by the Performance Workshop students throughout the previous festival year. The Summer Extravaganza is usually held toward the end of June, details will be on the notice board in reception but please register early as space is limited.

Performed at Dean Close School Theatre, tickets are available to buy a few weeks before the performance.

Christmas Panto

A perfect way to end the year and a chance for the children to experience and perform in our pantomime. Parents get to see their children perform various dances, singing, acting and having fun!
