19th November 2011

Starting off one of the most enjoyable and relaxed evenings at “The Bacon Theatre” was the beautifully costumed “Narnia”, an intermediate dance based on the C.S. Lewis book “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. Senior Jazz Ballet followed, showing the talent and polish of our older dancers. Picnic, a long standing favourite dance of the junior group, was as delightful as ever with many new children taking to the stage for the first time.

“Creations” is a choreographic competition which several of our students entered last year and the P.W. fundraising evening was the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the competitors’ dances. Throughout the evening we were entertained by the
fabulous dances of E.J. Alden, Emma Lewis and Jenna Miles.

Winning festival dances “Build a Mountain” (intermediates), “Sky” (seniors) and “Faith” (juniors) were performed with style and energy, bringing rapturous applause to the auditorium. They provided a lovely contrast to the serene choreography of “White Ballet” (intermediates) and “Green Ballet” (seniors).

We saw some wonderfully talented soloists perform throughout the evening, all of whom had won championship competitions at the Gloucester Dance Festival in October: E.J. Alden (Senior Modern Champion), Molly Kent (Senior Tap Champion), Emma Jenkins (Senior Ballet Champion) and Emily Lewis (Junior Tap and Ballet Champion).

Towards the end of the evening, after a beautifully moving dance from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (intermediates), the tempo was raised again with dynamic modern pieces: “One Word” (seniors), “Train” (juniors) and “Car Wash” (intermediates).

The finale of the night was the superbly choreographed and spirited “Senior Tap”, which left the audience in no doubt of the high standard of teaching within our dance school and the aptitude of our students.

Rod Davis, the chairman of “The Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts”, was full of admiration for the “professional standard” of the dancers and, having received a final cheque for £640, was full of admiration for the “amazing” and “fabulous” night’s entertainment from all age groups.

A huge “Thank you” must go, as always, to Mrs Marshall and all members of her staff for their marvellous choreography, teaching, costuming and patience!  Also, an enormous “Well done” should be extended to each and every member of P.W. whose unfailing enthusiasm contributed to a wonderful evening.
